Why
How this started
I've been roleplaying online for most of my life. Forum threads that ran for years. Chat rooms where a scene would catch fire at two in the morning. Tabletop campaigns held together with a dice bot, three browser tabs and a shared document nobody could find.
Every one of those places gave me something. But they all asked me to choose: long-form or live, characters or worlds, story or game. And when a site closed, years of writing went with it.
I wanted one place that treats roleplay as what it is (collaborative fiction) and gives writers the tools, the room and the respect it deserves. So I started building it.
What
What Chronicle is
Chronicle brings the ways we roleplay under one roof, connected by the characters and worlds you create:
- Stories: long-form play-by-post, written at your own pace, kept forever.
- Rooms: live scenes for when the moment is now.
- Worlds: shared settings with lore, factions, places and canon you build together.
- The tabletop: maps, sheets, initiative and dice for when the story needs rules.
- Characters: profiles you can make entirely your own, with an archive of everything they've lived through.
Belief
What we stand for
Writing comes first. Every design decision starts with the question: does this help people write, read and find each other's stories?
Your work is yours. Your characters and writing belong to you. We're building ways to export and keep them, because no one should lose years of stories again.
Creativity without a ceiling. From formatting and images to fully custom profile pages: if you can imagine it, you should be able to make it here.
Kindness is the house rule. Appreciation is built into the site through Marks and the Hall of Fame, and moderation is there to protect the community, not police it.
Fair to support. Marks buy cosmetics and convenience, never an advantage in a story, and they're never sold as a way to make money from other members.
Goals
Where we're going
- A tabletop that feels effortless for game masters and players alike: lighting, walls, a searchable library, and turn-based actions that just work.
- Worlds that look and feel like the places they describe.
- Better ways to find partners, stories and groups that match what you love to write.
- Tools that keep your writing safe and portable.
- A community-led Hall of Fame that celebrates the best of what we make together.
Chronicle is young and growing. A lot of what's here exists because someone asked for it, and that's how I want it to stay.
You
Come write with us
If you've ever lost yourself in a story with someone else, you belong here. Make a character, wander into a world, open a thread, and tell me what you'd like to see next.
See you in the story.
